La Tonga Pagoda, 1947, G.I.-built Tiki Hut

Located in Malibu at County Line Beach, La Tonga Pagoda is a 1947 Tiki Hut hand-made by a G.I., just back from the South Seas. The structure is elevated on blocks like a temporary military bunker, has a pagoda roof, and sliding glass doors opening up the entire home to panoramic views of Point Mugu and the Santa Barbara Channel Islands. BoydDesign restored the home with high end Polynesian/Pacific Rim detailing. A dilapidated former surfboard hut was transformed into an al fresco dining pavilion overlooking crashing waves and a palm-lined pathway to the beach. Privacy was achieved with the installation of a jungle wall between the Pacific Coast Highway and the music room.
